Rift Valley leads in Kenyan voter registation

Its now official, 12.3 million Kenyans have registered manually to vote in the forthcoming referendum.

However the current figure is a drop by 13% compared to those who voted in 2007.

Rift Valley is leading with 2.9 million voters while North Eastern trails at 2 hundred thousand with electronic registered voters not included.

The 49 day exercise saw 12.3 million Kenyans register manually to vote in the much publicized referendum.

Releasing preliminary figures by, the chairman of the Interim Independent Electoral Commission (IIEC) Mr Ahmed Isaack Hassan said the final tally of eligible voters will go up once electronic voter registration which continues until May 21 and the verification process is complete.

The statistics however show a drop by 13 percent compared to the number of registered voters as at the 2007 general election.

Rift Valley is in the lead with 2.9m registered voters, followed closely by central at 2.7m, Nyanza 1.7m, Western 1.3m, Nairobi 1.2m, Eastern 1.1m, Coast, 938,207 while North Eastern recorded the lowest registration at 221, 202.
