| IEBC targets 10m new voters for 2012 election |

 The electoral commission targets to register more than 10 million new voters between now and next year in readiness for the forthcoming general elections.The Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission manager, planning and logistics, Godfrey Lemiso, said Kenyans in the diaspora will also be registered. He was speaking at IEBC offices at Iten in the Elgeyo/Marakwet County during the countrywide directorate voter education and partnership meeting. Lemiso said that the commission is ready to conduct elections whether in August or December next year. He added that the electoral and boundary commission will carry out a mock election next year to enable the electorate to acquaint themselves on how the voting will be conducted particularly now that there will be six elective offices in the constitution. The mock elections, he stated, will be conducted in constituencies of Kajiado North which represents a cosmopolitan area and in Malindi which represent a rural and religious set up. In the meeting attended by among others former MPs Nicholas Biwott, John Marimoi, Simion Chepseba Keiyo county council chairman and William Chesingany (Marakwet),the commission official called on wananchi to read the new constitution thoroughly in order make informed decisions during the general elections. The meeting was meant to sensitize opinion leaders and electorate awareness on elective offices under the constitutions.
